Deep Cleaning Dental Appointments in Chula Vista, CA

If it’s been a while since your last check-up, we may recommend a deep cleaning.

Even if you brush and floss regularly—tartar, plaque, and/or calculus accumulates on teeth in those hard-to-reach places. If this harmful material isn’t removed, then it can cause cavities, tooth decay, and periodontal disease Professional dental cleanings are recommended every 6 months, however, if it’s been a while since your last check-up, we may recommend a deep cleaning.

A typical deep cleaning consists of 2 or 4 appointments, with each treating one half or one quadrant of your mouth. Depending on the needs of each individual patient, we may incorporate one or more of the following:

  • Ultrasonic Cleaning – Our specialized dental scaler features a vibrating tip to break up hard plaque and calculus. A pulsing jet of water also helps dislodge material and clean the tooth surface.
  • Scaling and Root Planing – Harmful build-up is removed from around and below the gumline. Root surfaces are smoothed and made more resistant to plaque.
  • Laser Periodontal Treatment – Our dental laser is used to combat gum disease with a special frequency of laser light, calibrated to kill bacteria and sterilize infection. Even better, it does this while leaving healthy tissue intact, AND encouraging a healing response. So, patients treated with laser therapy typically see quicker recovery times and better overall periodontal health in the long run.
