Dental Bonding FAQs

Dental Bonding ResinWhat Is Dental Bonding?

An amazingly versatile treatment to restore or cosmetically enhance your teeth.

What is dental bonding? It sounds like making friends with your dentist, but it’s actually a whole lot better than that! Bonding is a type of material that we use for many applications. It consists of a special composite resin designed to match your natural teeth—both in color and texture.

What is dental bonding used for?

In much the same way that tooth-colored fillings seamlessly fix cavities and decay, dental bonding can restore more extensive portions of damaged teeth. In other cases, we may recommend a dental crown or alternative restorations. It all depends on the specifics of your case.

Additionally, we can also provide cosmetic bonding applications to improve your smile’s aesthetics. Cosmetic bonding uses include covering up minor irregularities, discolorations, stains, and we can even close gaps between teeth and correct the appearance of tooth alignment problems.

How does it work?

First, we provide an examination to determine if dental bonding is right for you. When we proceed, we’ll first prepare the treatment area. Preparation may include removing any damaged or decayed material that is too compromised to be saved. We also typically score the tooth surface to provide texture to which the bonding material can adhere. Next, we apply the composite resin material in thin layers, using a special warming light to cure and dry each application. In this way, the restoration or cosmetic bonding is gradually built-up.

It takes a skilled dentist to create beautiful and functional dental bonding, but our team has the experience and are confident in our abilities. If you think it’s right for you, call us today at 619-216-2807 to schedule a consultation!
