How often do I need a Checkup?

Every patient is different, but checkups are typically recommended every 6 months. After an initial evaluation and review of your health history, we can determine if more frequent appointments are recommended to improve oral health.

What’s happens at an appointment?

At your appointment, we do all sorts of things to examine your mouth and teeth, as well as provide a professional cleaning and evaluate your need for repairs. At a typical exam, we may:

  • Evaluate oral health and hygiene
  • Assess your risk for cavities tooth decay
  • Check for periodontal (gum) disease
  • Examine old dental work & restorations
  • Screen for signs of oral cancer or tumors
  • Provide professional cleaning, removing stains and buildup
  • Take dental X-rays, if necessary
  • Provide fluoride treatment, if necessary
  • Take an impression to create a model of your teeth
  • Discuss ways to improve your oral hygiene
  • Discuss possible treatments, repairs, or follow-up appointments

About Yuri Kaneda, DDS

Dr. Yuri Kaneda was born in Japan and immigrated to the US when she was 4 years old with her family. She lived in Ohio, Nebraska, and Illinois before finally settling in the San Diego area. A graduate of Bonita Vista High School, she went on to the University of California Berkeley where she obtained her Bachelors in Microbiology and Immunology. After working for 2 years in growth plate research at University of California San Diego, she went to the University of California San Francisco Dental School for her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Upon graduation, she returned to San Diego where she worked as an associate in the practice of Drs. Morimoto and Yaryan, her childhood dentist. She then started her own practice in 1995 and has been at her present location since 1999 which happens to be across the street from her high school!
